Power Outage Under Investigation

Residents of the Campbellsville, Liberty and Rose Hill areas were without power on Friday, January 16 due to suspicious cirumstances.

On a very cold morning, power went off at 6:46 a.m. for approximately 750 customers in northwest Giles County. Crews were able to restore service to the majority of those affected by 7:28 a.m. Approximately 70 people had to wait until 8:41 a.m. for their power to be restored.

There was heavy load on the system due to the extreme cold and customers trying to keep their homes comfortable.  This made it more difficult for the protection devices to hold and required upgrades to some of the fuses in the field.

As for the cause of the outage, PES personnel found a number of transformers in the area had been shot and shell casings were found near the transformers.  PES is working with the Giles County Sheriff’s Department as they continue to investigate the matter.

PES intends to prosecute the case if the person or people responsible are found.
